Topfield Trf7160 Firmware Upgrade
Jan 22, 2015 Topfield 7160 how do I do a firmware upgrade - Computers & Internet question. First I have heard of the August firmware. Topfield Australia and Topfield Korea seem to be having problems in posting latest firmware versions on www sites. So I've stuck with the 10 Feb 2011 firmware for several years after newer firmware had missing codecs and broke Tap support. Reading the oztoppy wiki I see there is a.
Junior Member Registered: Posts: 6 Posted Hey Everyone, I purchased a TRF-7260 Plus and it came with the following System Details: System ID: 32501 Loader Version: v1.00 Device Version: v1.0.1 Application Version: TF-BCPF 1.02.00 Last Update: Aug 27 2014 I went to teh topfield website and downloaded what I thought was the latest firmware. Should have read properly as it took me back to version from December 2012!!! How damn silly it does not state you are trying to go to a LOWER version of what is installed. I am now on: System ID: 32501 Loader Version: v1.00 Device Version: v1.0.1 Application Version: TF-BCPF 1.01.00 Last Update: Nov 18 2013 I can't find the Aug 27 update anywhere.
I tried updating via Network cable but it does nothing except start looking for an update and quits back after a short while. Where can I get this Aug 27 2014 update from and what did it contain? I live in Australia and that is how it came from purchase. Would really like the new update back.

I downloaded dig already and on the set top box it states what it was before I tried to install it @Ian - I will have to call topfield and that was the plan tomorrow. I have a photo of the firmware screen / system information screen before I updated as proof just in case topfield say there is no such thing. See attached. So wish I never downgraded.

Moderator + Toppy Guru Registered: Posts: 1,888 Posted Hi All, the intial firmware was 1.02.00; the latest I have is 1.01.00 18 November 2013. (Not that I doubted this without the screen shot - which was very useful.) The interesting thing is that there is also an August 2014 2400 firmware that is proving difficult to get hold of. Junior Member Registered: Posts: 6 Posted Edited Hey Everyone - thanks for your responses. Agreed - current available firmware works so why mess with a working system right? (I only wanted to know what it contained and fixed.
I thought it might have been like a codec update of some kind for a higher playback compatibility from external media) I have to say - no idea what TAPs are. Have not looked into it but seen many references to it. Anyway - I have an update. What the update did in August was help with the issue of people getting scrambled channels. I know mine gets scrambled channels in the 44 channels it detects. It seems to detect many channels twice and the ones on the lower frequency of 250 and below work fine but those detected in the +500 frequency are low signal and scrambled. Whetehr it is specifically what I experience on the current firmware or whether it is for something completely different in teh way of scrambled channels I do not know.
That all said. Topfield sent me the firmware update file link.
They stated the website crashed and all the new firmware was removed and only old remained. They are in the process of getting it all fixed and apparently that will also fix the automatic update / manual update via a Network connection too The above link is what was sent to me and I was advised it is the August 27 2014 update. Not sure if it is for fixes in AU specifically or what not but there is the link. I am not at home to try updating and see exactly what it is. The text file sent with it is as follows: TRF-7260 HOW TO UPDATE FIRST INSERT THE USB TO THE USB PORT ON THE BACK OF YOUR UNIT. THEN FOLLOW THE BELOW INSTRUCTIONS.

NOw scan your channels in again. Menu/installation/searching/start search. You will get a bar at the bottom of your screen, wait till it gets to 100% then press okay and exit. After doing update make sure time is set like this If in QLD Menu/settings/time/time mode: Auto,Day Light Savings = OFF Time offset = 10:00 If in NSW, VIC, ACT, Menu/settings/time/time mode: Auto,Day Light Savings = ON Time offset = 10:00 If in WA, /settings/time/time mode: Auto,Day Light Savings = ON Time offset = 8.00 If in SA, /settings/time/time mode: Auto,Day Light Savings = ON Time offset = 9.30 8. You have now completed the update. If you have duplicate channels please follow the instructions below the delete the channels: In order to delete the channels, firstly you need to watch the channel and decide which channel you want to delete and then you press the ‘OK’ button on the remote which will bring ‘TV services List’. Then Highlight the channel you want delete and then press the white ‘OPTION’ button on the remoteWhich is the white button, which will bring the option screen where you could choose to ‘DELETE’.
You have now completed the update. Moderator + Toppy Guru Registered: Posts: 1,888 Posted In most cases, a factory reset is not needed. Sometimes not doing so can result in corrupted settings, in which case you should also do a reset before installing the firmware (see oztoppy wiki discussion of ). The fact that this is mentioned may be significant as it is not usually mentioned in update instructions.

Well - at least I do SmartEPG is one that is just about indispensable. A bit of a learning curve but once you have your head around it your machine's flexibility will double. Thanks for posting the Link to the Firmware. I'm a bit of a compulsive upgrader although my 7260 is running very well. Ian's failed upgrade has made me put the brakes on though. I may wait an extra hour or three. Phil TRF-7260, SmartEPG(Latest).
Moderator + Toppy Guru Registered: Posts: 1,888 Posted Edited TAPs turn Toppys from a rather ordinary PVR into something amazing. For a brief background on TAPs see the. For me the must have TAPs are SmartEPG and WebControl - there is an 'index' of TAPs and where to find information on them.
There may be a minor problem with the August firmware - other recent firmware limits output to a low resolution 576i (not an issue if you TV has firmware that up-scales to 1080 well). I have not checked this with the August 7260 firmware, but it is an issue with the 7170, 2400 and I suspect the 2470 firmware. Junior Member Registered: Posts: 6 Posted Thanks for the additional posts Ian and Phil. I just updated to the Aug 27 2014 as per the link I supplied and everything went fine with the update. I will add as this device was new I only had FAVS stored so I went into system recovery and did a reset service list and Factory settings first I then did the update. After the update the output was stuck at 576I and I could not change it. I then did a factory settings reset and I could change between all the display output modes whether in the display output section or via the VF button on the remote. (I will add this exact same thing happen to me after I installed the Nov 18 2013 update.
I did a factory settings reset then too to get all AV outputs back - so it is not linked to this update alone) Is this what your were referring to Ian? That said - my device seems to be working exactly the same as before EXCEPT after I did a channel search it did a duplicate channel search at the end and auto removed the duplicate channels. Better than having to delete them If I come across any issues in I'll advise Zephyr P.s. I seem to have the SmartEPG in some form already pre installed (Australian Model).
It looks similar to that of the SE shown on the wiki but I might see if teh one of the wiki is better. The wiki states: This is an elegant and visually appealing TAP which has been trialled on Australian Model Topfields.
It has many powerful features such as those listed further below. Originally Posted by Zephyr Is this what your were referring to Ian?
Thanks for providing this information. Yes, that was the problem I had with the 2400. In that case I did do a reset to factory settings and that did not seem to help. It does not help with the 7170 either. But as you say, it does not seem to be a problem with the 7260.
