The Linktivity WebDemo Hosted service delivers more features than other products we tested, but it suffers from a very rough feel and poor usability. The presenter console is clunky, with multiple windows that you can't resize and that often get in the way of application sharing. Also, when wading through the interface, we had the feeling that configuration options and features were thrown together without much regard to usability.
It will take you a while to figure out an option like 'Cast128 Encryption,' however useful it may turn out to be. We did like being able to choose from a set of common screen resolutions when sharing a region of our screen, as well as the ability to hide desktop icons when screen-sharing. We also liked the built-in polling feature, but the resulting questions did not look very professional. We found some problems when conducting meetings, too. For example, when the presenter closes a meeting, the participants get no notification. The presentation remains open, and a participant can still send chat messages that the presenter will never see.
Eventually, the participant will probably figure out that he or she is chatting with empty air. This is just poor software design. For best results, Linktivity requires a JVM on both the presenter's and the participants' computers. Although an HTML interface is available for participants, we don't recommend it. The HTML interface does not support audio, video, remote control, file transfer, or polling, and it provides a subpar user interface. A related service, Linktivity MeetNow ($29.95/month) is a one-to-one ad-hoc meeting option for telecommuters or one-on-one sales calls.
