Sample taro, breadfruit, pawpaw, banana mango poke and many others that you will find simply delicious. Some accommodation providers or resorts in Rarotonga will prepare food in the traditional umukai (oven in the ground). A deep pit is filled with scorching hot stones. Damp sacking and shredded banana leaves are placed over the stones, creating steam. The kai (traditional food) is placed in the umu and then covered with leaves and earth. It is then left to steam for about two hours.
